My name is João.
I make film photography artworks, and I compose music.
I’m from the south of Portugal, where I live by the sea.

‘along the ocean songs’ is the name of my art project. An art project where I shoot exclusively on analog 35mm film, and I compose music inspired by the atmosphere of the scenes I shoot.

When I shoot on film, I try to create a world, a journey. I try to capture the atmosphere of the places where I live and breathe the sea. I try to save into photographs my own experience and connection with the sea. And I try to create artworks with photographic film negatives as if they were poetic or cinematic memories. Memories that inspire me to compose music and make songs. Songs as stories from a dreamy world of oceans and islands, waves, and surf. Stories from a journey along the sea.

 

This is an ongoing art project that I’m currently working on as if it were a puzzle that I’m creating piece by piece: photographs, songs, and stories.
